The thing that struck me the most about these panels is that Steve’s obviously given it some thought, otherwise he wouldn’t have a specific bullet set aside for the very act. Yet the contemplation of suicide here turns in on itself in a very clear way, simply by the word engraved into the bullet itself: diligence. That bullet is set aside as an encouragement not to go through with those thoughts, like an alcoholic going to a bar but not ordering a drink, or a self-injurer keeping a blade in their room. It’s a test of will.

the winter soldier project: identity
newsarama: but playing devil’s advocate—asking the cosmic cube to help you is very “monkey’s paw” at best… the winter soldier could have been, in reality, someone named comrade pitor nikoli, created just to demoralize cap, but with him wishing it to be so with the cube, couldn’t cap just have willed the winter soldier to be bucky, and so he was?
brubaker: that wasn’t how I looked at it. look at what he said—”remember who you are”. he didn’t say, “become who i think you are”. or, “be bucky”. it was very straightforward. which is more the tragedy, since bucky immediately has this immense guilt for everything he did as the winter soldier.
This is it, boys, this is war - what are we waiting for?
#forever disappointed this scene was cut #and we couldn’t see the cocky young kid from brooklyn being torn apart by war and facing his own death

#forever obsessed with his acting choices in this film #even his cockiness in the beginning has a worryingly unstable edge #completely blind to anyone other than himself but steve #just riding the edge of the wave of his handsomeness and charm #a boy about to go to war who’s never known anything but being the shining light of his own life #and then he goes tumbling into the dark #look at that face; those eyes #that boy is a monster
^ so accurate it hurts

You’re worried about me? You are Sharon Carter, right? Not a Life Model Decoy?
There’s a lot of talk about Sharon Carter, that she doesn’t support Steve enough or care about him enough or that she’s too mean to him, and those are probably true at times, but rarely do people talk about the fact that Steve is a dick right back. And sometimes he is a dick unprovoked. Steve is not a shrinking violet; he can be aggressive and outspoken and rude with the best of them.
Like here, Sharon has gone out of her way to make sure he’s all right, that he’s not putting himself in unnecessary danger, and Steve is making snide comments about her. And this is not new. Steve has been an asshole to Sharon plenty of times in the past.
Back in v3, Steve was forcing Sharon into conversations with which she was not comfortable, trying to get her to admit her feelings for him (He was also dating someone else at this time.) He was frustrated with her because he didn’t know her anymore, didn’t understand what had happened to her to change her so much, but that doesn’t excuse his behavior. Steve has been ridiculously pushy at times with her.
So let’s stop pretending like poor Steve has been victimized by that mean old Sharon, because that’s not true. Steve’s not a child. He can handle himself in his relationships.

I was supposed to be drawing something else. Instead I spent the whole night genderswapping. This is Haipollai’s fault.
There’s another drawing for a particular part of that fic…
NEVER GONNA DRAW THAT EVER.
